Carlyle and Cogentrix Sell Effingham County Power Facility

Carlyle and Cogentrix closed on Project Bronco, completing the sale of the Effingham County Power Facility to Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC). Effingham is a 511 MW operating combined-cycle generating and transmission facility located in the city of Rincon, Georgia. The facility features two GE combustion turbines and one steam turbine.

Cogentrix will continue operating the plant until the completion of the transition of the management and operations to OPC, which is planned for December 2021.

During its ownership tenure, the Carlyle Cogentrix team completed major overhauls of the combustion and steam turbines, implemented data analytics with broad plant equipment monitoring and operations trending facilitating predictive maintenance, and optimized the commercial marketing of energy through various offtake deal structures and tenors.

Subsequent to the Effingham sale, SEPG closed Project Thrasher, where Harbert Management Corporation will acquire a 50% interest in the Sandersville facility. Cogentrix will continue to manage and operate Sandersville on behalf of the partnership.
