Position Summary
The person in this position is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of the facility in accordance with all company policies and standards. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing equipment maintenance and record keeping duties on systems, such as, gas and steam turbines, heat recovery steam generator, boilers, auxiliaries, fuel and pollution systems, within established procedures.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor the operation of major plant equipment and systems and takes appropriate action to ensure they are operated safely, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Ensure operation is done in a manner consistent with maximizing availability and optimizing energy efficiency.
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment and systems.
Serve as a technical resource for personnel with regard to mechanical equipment and systems operation and maintenance.
Conduct routine mechanical system and equipment inspections and tests as required to ensure equipment and systems are operating within specified parameters.
Perform a variety of maintenance activities, including, but not limited to, machining, welding and pipefitting functions, equipment and test equipment calibration and alignment, inspection, testing, lubrication, etc.
Write or update maintenance procedures and Safety Risk Assessments on plant equipment and work packages. Maintain accurate logs of significant work order repair activities and parts usage.
Take measurements and readings to compare with known standards. Implement appropriate corrective actions within established procedures and promptly communicate these actions accurately to the Maintenance Manager.
Provide for emergency/temporary repairs as needed; plan and schedule permanent repairs; maintain logs for all repair work; ensures the maintenance of preventive and repair work records and logs.
Complete assigned performance qualifications and training in a timely manner.
Complete all training requirements, as needed.
Comply with inventory count and parts removal processes as outlined by site management.
Plan, schedule, and procure materials and/or services for planned outage repairs as directed by Maintenance Manager.
Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as part of daily job duties.
Inspect and monitor environmental equipment and make appropriate notifications.
Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area including tasks not limited to snow removal, salting/sanding, sweeping, dusting, cleaning, and operating power industrial trucks and aerial lifts.
Actively participate in safety and compliance committee meetings and activities as assigned.
Comply fully with all Company policies, the Employee Handbook, the Company EHS and NERC Compliance Programs and government regulations and procedures.
Respond to plant emergencies as required, consistent with Emergency Response Action Plan.
Support overall site operation as required including operating plant equipment as required under direction of Lead Operator, receiving deliveries of materials or chemicals or other duties as assigned.
Respond to call-ins and overtime requirements, as necessary, to support facility requirements.
Education/Experience Required
High School Diploma required. Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two‐year college or technical school preferred or prior related experience.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in power plant generation operations or maintenance or equivalent.
Knowledge /Skills
General power plant operational knowledge, skills and work abilities. Specific knowledge of GE gas turbines is preferred.
General mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hands to perform equipment repairs.
General knowledge or pumps, valves, piping systems, and the associated support equipment for these items as well as any others that might be encountered in this facility.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one‐lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID’s.
Ability to set and deliver high standards in plant performance.
Must have a strong safety and environmental compliance commitment.
Prior experience overseeing / interacting with contracted labor and managing their work activities as required.
Willing to work overtime, call-outs for emergency repairs and work flexible work hours when requested.
Ability to think outside the box and manage multiple projects.
Ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with officers, partners, manager, supervisors, fellow employees, outside consultants and the public.
Computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Prior exposure to Computerized Maintenance Management Systems such as Maximo, PeopleSoft, SAP, MVP, etc.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
Must apply for and acquire a TSA Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
Must have a valid driver's license for travel to other companies/vendors.
Must be physically able to safely transit plant facilities, stairways to 100 feet and ladders.
Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, bending, and entering plant areas to access, inspect, maintain, repair or collect data on plant equipment.
Must satisfactorily pass a pulmonary fitness test and be able to wear an Air Purifying Respirator and/or a Self-Contained Breather Apparatus.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
