Lead Plant Operator and Towanda PA

Position Summary

The Lead Plant Operator (LPO) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and safety of the plant. This role includes overseeing workflow management, operations management, personnel management, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The LPO will be the point person for all Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) processes, permit control, and maintenance coordination.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Workflow Management

  • LOTO Process: Maintain control of all LOTO processes during normal operations, including signing authorization to work/clear, controlling key management, and ensuring proper lock-on/off procedures. During outages, an "Outage Lead" takes over these responsibilities.
  • Permit Control: Oversee all permits, including Safe Work, Hot Work, Confined Space, and Energized Electrical, and maintain these permits in the permit binder in the LPO office.
  • E-Week Work Scope Planning: Collaborate with the Operations Manager to plan the weekly work scope for E-week operators.
  • Maximo Management: Ensure work orders (WOs) are properly detailed, include necessary parts, and are field-completed by the responsible personnel.
  • Mobile Equipment: Ensure inspection sheets for all equipment are filled out prior to use and submitted to the OM every Monday morning.
  • Weekly Tasks: Ensure all weekly tasks are completed and reported to the OM every Monday morning.

Operations Management

  • Monitor plant operations and perform periodic assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Review and provide feedback for all PDC and Sure-sense alerts.
  • Forecast fuel and generation nominations based on plant load conditions.
  • Oversee event reporting and eLogger for air permits, trips, de-rates, etc.
  • Ensure communication with external parties, such as EM/PJM/Valley Energy/1stE, as needed.
  • Enforce the use of 3-part communication and ensure compliance with all plant operation procedures.
  • Lead pre-job briefings for all major events and ensure plant safety and security.
  • Maintain plant safety, including coordination of snow and ice mitigation efforts and directing lawn maintenance contractors.
  • Control contractor safety training and record-keeping.
  • Conduct monthly safety walks and safety observations.

 

Personnel Management

  • Training: Provide theory, book, and field training for new hires and perform periodic performance reviews with APO/CRO.
  • Shift Schedule/PTO: Manage call-off and PTO coverage, update the schedule, and keep the OM informed of all overtime.
  • CRO/APO Progression/Qualification: Provide leadership and encouragement for departmental development, assist with annual reviews, and participate in the hiring process.

Working Conditions:

  • This role requires on-site presence and may involve working in varying environmental conditions.
  • The LPO may need to respond to emergencies and work flexible hours, including weekends and nights, as needed.

Education/Experience Required

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum of 6 years of power plant and leadership experience.
