Position Summary
This incumbent is responsible for managing, facilitating, and monitoring processes across the Cogentrix operating fleet. This includes developing, implementing, tracking, and monitoring plant outage preparations, project management and implementation (construction) across the fleet. The key attributes include planning, scheduling, execution of projects, and accurate cost tracking. This role requires coordination and collaboration to drive continuous process improvements for the portfolio of power plants. This includes sharing of best practices, key lessons learned, applying corrective actions across the fleet and training of key personnel. In addition, this role will develop and support specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which will be used to monitor the current state and drive fleetwide improvements.
The incumbent will report to the VP of Operations. Based on their readiness to move to the next level in the future, the incumbent may be in line to assume responsibilities of a General Manager (Plant Manager) role at one of our many Cogentrix facilities.
The position requires frequent travel and potentially relocation to one of our facilities.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Effectively assist and direct individuals that are currently implementing new or existing programs and procedures in the generation fleet.
- Develop strong relationships with employees at the management level and company-wide to help drive process improvements throughout the Operations organization.
- Provide the vision to the Work Management team and incorporate the best-in-class industry standards while ensuring current best practices across generation fleet.
- Strengthen the planning and scheduling capabilities at the plant level while driving consistency across the fleet.
- Be the chief liaison of process improvement for the company’s key stakeholders including plant operations, supply chain management, IT, and senior leadership.
- Develop and implement short term tactical plans while focusing on long-term business plans for maintenance work management, project work, and contractor management processes at plant locations, corporate-wide.
- Develop project charters, functional requirements, test scripts, and training materials for specific projects.
- Assist in data conversion efforts for new acquisitions and mergers.
- Actively participate and assist in driving project planning sessions with team members to analyze business and technical capabilities/requirements.
- Participate in incident and near miss event investigations using root cause analysis methodology. Contribute to corrective action development, implementation and tracking.
- Perform the responsibility of project lead on assigned projects.
- Support off hours, nights and weekend work when necessary such as during plant outages or emergency response situations.
Education/Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or the equivalent, is desirable
- 5+ year experienced in the management of skilled labor and/or professional workforce.
- 5+ year’s experience working for utilities (power generation, paper and pulp, etc.)
- PMP (Project Manager Professional) certification would be an asset.
- Strong organization, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels within the plant and corporate organization.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Ability to perform and coordinate multiple tasks and issues simultaneously and perform assigned responsibilities at a high level in a fast-paced, often changing environment.
