Electrical Test Specialist - Field Services/Roxboro, NC

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Install, test, maintain and repair electrical equipment in power plant facilities for plant and grid protection. Write reports as required by the facilities and corporate for various compliance reporting, resulting from the electrical testing performed, including but not limited to NERC, CIP, post job work summaries, Root Cause Analysis, and field reports.

This position requires approximately 60% travel throughout the United States and its territories. Travel locations will vary but are primarily in the eastern United States. International travel may also be required periodically. The preferred location for the individual's home base is in the northeast US. Preferred locations are eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Rhode Island, or Virgina, or North Carolina.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Installs, tests, and calibrates power plant protective relays. Test and maintain transformers, generators, switchgear, breakers, wiring, and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards, and regulations, including but not limited to batteries, vacuum bottles, electronic components, battery charger controls, and high voltage systems.

Operates various electrical testing equipment to locate and identify electrical malfunctions, faults or evaluate the equipment's general condition.

Studies plans, drawings, specifications, manuals, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs or installations.

Maintains complete logs and records of problems, prepares protective system preventive maintenance reports, and when required, in a format suitable for compliance reporting.

Implements safe working practices and immediately identifies hazards. Provides mitigation recommendations and implements repairs when applicable.

May work with and provide direction for outside contractors periodically when sub-contractors are engaged in designated plant electrical-related work.

The preferred candidate should have the experience to support plant maintenance activities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a four-year state-approved and recognized technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance and eight (8) years electrical experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and education from which the candidate has demonstrated comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience of three (3) years in supervising field personnel in a plant or field environment. • Possess knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade.
  • Experience performing NERC PRC-005-6 Testing and calibration
  • Competent in NETA Maintenance Testing Standards, NFPA 70B, and NEC.
  • Possess knowledge of electrical application for high, medium, and low voltage electric systems. • Skill in installing, repair, and maintaining all types of electrical system equipment and associated components.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and be insurable.
  • The preferred "home" location for the position would be within the eastern United States.
  • The job will require travel to the work location between 65-85% of the year.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERENCES:

  • Aerial Lift Certification
  • NFPA 70E Certification
  • NETA Qualified Technician Level 1-4
  • State Journeyman/Master Electrical License
  • NERC CIP • Experience with Megger and Omicron test equipment.
  • The preferred candidate should also have experience or the desire to develop competence with Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers.
