IC&E Technician and Towanda PA

Position Summary

Liberty LLC is a natural gas-fired generating station located in Towanda, PA.  This position involves troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and construction of electrical, controls, instrumentation equipment and systems. This position requires the ability to work with complex electronic control equipment, low to medium voltage electrical equipment and instrumentation.  The selected candidate should hold a degree in an electronics/instrumentation field or have equivalent job experience.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Workflow Management

  • Install, repair, maintain, and calibrate indicating and controlling digital and electronic instruments that measure and control process variables, such as pressure, flow, level, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition using hand tools and precision instruments.
  • Interpret technical documentation: data sheets, vendor manuals, troubleshooting flowcharts, etc. Interpret/ prepare technical drawings from simple schematics to complex P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, and PLC ladder logic diagrams.
  • Understand digital control systems and valves, transmitters and transducers.
  • Configure digital transmitters.
  • Interpret data from advanced diagnostic programs for instrumentation.
  • Disassemble malfunctioning instruments and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
  • Troubleshoot equipment in or out of control loops and replace or repair defective parts.
  • Reassemble instruments, test and calibrate assembly for conformance with specifications using test instruments such as multi-meters, manometers, smart communicators and pressure instruments.
  • Maintain and control spare parts inventory.
  • Assist in budget planning and control.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage electrical equipment rated 480 volts through 5,000 volts.
  • Knowledge of electrical components.
  • Inspect instruments periodically and make minor calibration adjustments to assure they are functioning within specified controlled variables.
  • Creation and modification of procedures and associated documents.
  • Creation of job scopes and other bidding documents.

  • All plant employees must work safely at all times. Working at the power plant may require:
  • Working in varied outdoor environments such as all-weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on a full range of outdoor work surfaces sometimes at elevated heights.
  • The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, air purifying respirator, hearing protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.) may be required. Work with hazardous materials may also be required.
  • Working in proximity to high voltage and current with proper training and equipment, operating heavy equipment and rolling stock and entering confined spaces or hazardous environments may be required while often being exposed to equipment and machinery noises.
  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, operation of large valves and other tasks requiring up to 100 lbs. of pulling or turning force, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Eye and hand coordination are required to operate switches, pushbuttons, and other controls.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • All candidates will participate in the post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
  • This position requires extended working hours and varied shifts including weekend and holiday work. The ability to be “on call” is also required periodically.

 

Education/Experience Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Required - high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Trade school, military or technical training school; preferred - an Associate's Degree in Electronics / Instrumentation Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in instrument and controls.
  • Technical competence (understand software, hardware, networks, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have legal authority to permanently work in the U.S.

Additional Desired Background/Experience

  • Familiar with all forms of instruments and valves.  Familiar with HART communicators and their    uses/functions.
  • Familiar with calibration procedures and their documentation.
  • Able to read P&IDs, location drawings, I/O lists, etc.
  • Experience with Siemens DCS systems and configuration.
  • Experience with PLC systems, HMI’s and configuration; Allen Bradley FactoryTalk experience desired.
  • Experience with Ethernet communications and MOD BUS TCP/IP.
  • Experience with electrically classified and hazardous equipment maintenance and installation.
  • Experience with 480V through 5,000-volt motor and circuit breaker controls.
  • Knowledge of or previous exposure to electric generating equipment.

Schedule/Shift

 (4) 10hr days each week.  Scheduled workdays are on a 3-week rotation.  The rotation is shifted each week so that you will be working day shift Mondays through Fridays only, with a 2-day weekend off, 3-day weekend off and 4-day weekend off built into each 3-week schedule rotation.

On call every 3rd week.
