Assistant Controller - Princeton, NJ or Charlotte, NC

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for and responsibility for portions of entity-level accounting and corporate consolidation functions at Cogentrix owned and managed companies, including responsibility for the company’s accounts payable function.
  • Responsible for assisting with all external GAAP financial reporting that includes ensuring timely and accurate issuance of external financial statements.
  • Responsible for accurate, relevant, and timely internal financial reporting including but not limited to monthly variance and trend analysis, executive summary reporting, and materials presented to the Board of Directors.
  • Assisting the Controller in identifying, research, and documentation of GAAP issues for business transactions, and communicating the impact of GAAP to the Controller and CFO.
  • Assisting the Controller in evaluating accounting and financial impacts of proposed contracts and agreements.
  • Interact with the company’s external auditors to ensure timely issuance of the company’s audited financials in accordance with contractual or legal requirements.
  • Assists in designing, implementing, and monitoring compliance with the company’s accounting policies and procedures.
  • Perform accounting-related due diligence on potential business acquisitions including but not limited to analysis of financial statements, accounting policies, working capital trend analysis, and EBITDA analysis.
  • Manage certain accounting staff members including reviewing day-to-day work, answering questions, human resource tasks (approving PTO, annual reviews, etc.) and being the main contact while the Controller is out of the office.
  • Purchase price accounting including net working capital estimates and actuals.
  • Act as a leader in the accounting department when interacting with other departments to answer questions, provide analysis and bring potential issues to the group.

Education/Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 8+ years’ experience in progressive accounting positions
  • 3+ years’ management experience in accounting field
  • Experience with Oracle Peoplesoft and HFM or similar ERP financial system
  • Light travel required
