COMPANY BACKGROUND

Cogentrix is a leading independent power producer with a long track record of successfully acquiring, developing, constructing, operating, improving and divesting power generation assets. General Function:

Materials Management including purchasing, inventory and warehousing. Activities include, contract negotiations, terms and conditions, logistics, expediting, vendor risk management and on-boarding, value analysis, maintenance repair and operations (MRO) procurement and inventory activities.

Provide the development, engineering, operations, maintenance groups and plant buyers and inventory specialists with procurement and inventory services oversight by providing procurement and inventory guidance regarding procurement technical, cost, schedule and commercial terms and conditions and inventory controls and audit.

Procurement, bidding, negotiations of contracts for goods and services in support of maintenance and operational activities while assisting with the scheduling and expediting of all day to day operational and outage materials for all component parts of a facility.

Purchasing of capital equipment, MRO items, supplies, and services for existing facilities as well as new construction projects.  Evaluate, select, and negotiate price, schedule, terms and conditions with domestic and foreign suppliers. Analyze spend data to identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve reliability.

Optimize and maintain inventory levels to support the timely repair of the facilities while minimizing cash outlay for parts on the shelf. Oversee inventory audit programs.

Integrate new facilities into Cogentrix processes and systems.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position is responsible for the direct leadership of the corporate procurement and inventory organization. The position also provides indirect leadership of the local plant administrators to ensure proper procurement and inventory practices. With this matrixed team this role is responsible for ensuring compliance, managing risk, minimizing cost, and optimizing inventory levels.
  • The proper organizational metrics will be developed by this position and used to influence behavior of our corporate teams, plant teams, and suppliers.
  • Significant contract negotiations will be led by this position and coordinate the input from various stakeholders to ensure business needs are met.
  • This position is responsible for the training and development within the company for those that affect procurement, contract, and inventory risk.
  • Development and enforcement of policies and procedures will be led by this position in coordinating with legal. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting, business management or industrial engineering.
  • Professional membership with National Association of Purchasing Management preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PeopleSoft Procurement and Inventory Modules; and
  • 10 plus years’ procurement and inventory experience.
