Finance Manager – Charlotte, NC


Cogentrix is a leading independent power producer with a long track record of successfully acquiring, developing, constructing, operating, improving and divesting power generation assets. Cogentrix is owned by funds managed by The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest alternative asset management firms, and serves as Carlyle’s in-house power asset management platform. The Finance Manager oversees the financial matters of the corporate entity or all plant and related project entities, providing financial perspective, support and guidance to the General Manager, other site team members, and other departmental/ functional team members throughout the organization. Under functional guidance, he/she leads and manages the finance functions, provides stakeholders with projected and reported results, manages and performs short- and long-term financial analyses, and prepares and analyzes budgets and forecasts.


  • Prepares and analyzes plant budgets, forecasts and cash flow analyses
  • Manages project cash planning activities, particularly long-term projections, distributions and control of funds, identifying liquidity issues and opportunities
  • Administers all project-financing documents involving borrowing, debt service, lender reporting and equity contributions or distributions
  • Maintains and enhances managerial reporting of financial results and projections
  • Manages 5 year planning process for areas of responsibility
  • Makes financial presentations to corporate management, partners, owners, lenders, and others as required
  • Prepares ad hoc financial analyses and reporting as needed
  • Coordinates all project financial related matters
  • Provides financial review, planning and modeling for the project as required
  • Participates in the development and achievement of project’s strategic business plans, goals, and objectives

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the corporate finance field
  • Experience in the energy industry or related industry preferred
  • Excellent leadership abilities and technical competence with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Hyperion HFM and Planning desired
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles
  • Strong proficiency utilizing modeling tools, process development, presentation software, Excel and PowerPoint
