Database Administrator – Charlotte, NC


Cogentrix is a leading independent power producer with a long track record of successfully acquiring, developing, constructing, operating, improving and divesting power generation assets. Through the ownership and operation of these plants, Cogentrix has participated in most of the major power regions in the U.S. Cogentrix currently manages plants in the Carlyle portfolio, which has a total net generation of approximately 7,000 MW.


The Database Administrator is responsible for supporting, maintaining and enhancing assigned software and data systems used by the Company. This role will act as a liaison between internal customers and software vendors as required. This individual ensures the confidentially, integrity and availability for all systems in their area of responsibility. This role provides a technical interface for software vendors, peers, system users, and business users.


  1. Monitor, identify and implement new security related updates and patches for Oracle Web and Middleware products, Microsoft SQL Server database systems and Microsoft Operating Systems
  2. Monitor, identify and implement security and functionality updates for business applications
  3. Monitor, identify and implement security related application sub-system components (e.g. WebLogic Tuxedo, messaging systems, Integration broker, etc.)
  4. Monitor, maintain and enforce SDLC processes to ensure integrity and availability of the application platforms
  5. Facilitate critical separation of duties function (prevent developers from deploying code directly)
  6. Manage and oversee change management process for application platforms
  7. Monitor and tune PeopleSoft 9.2 systems to optimize performance and resource usage
  8. Support creation and configuration of new PeopleSoft domains and servers
  9. Monitor and troubleshoot business Applications
  10. Patch business applications and PeopleSoft 9.2 platform server (OS, Applications, databases)
  11. Manage PeopleSoft PUM/Tools upgrade processes
  12. Monitor application processes and resources. Work in team environment to resolve issues
  13. Responsible for all changes to production PeopleSoft environment/work in conjunction with security administrator and platform directory
  14. Document application changes, server configuration, and application/configuration change logs
  15. Configure and support web services
  16. Perform system and business application workflow functions


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Database Server, query development, and security
  3. Minimum of 3 year of experience administering PeopleSoft 9.X environments
  4. Experience with change management process and documentation as related to quality assurance
  5. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with many internal customers, as well as work independently
  6. Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills
  7. Proven ability to work in a fast-pace environment and handle multiple projects/tasks in parallel
  8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, Access)
  9. Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint is a plus.
